Nymphoplasty (labiaplasty) or reduction of labia minora
Women with droopy lips may be embarrassed in their daily lives (irritation) and in their sex life.
It is possible to correct this disgrace surgically.
The intervention is done on an outpatient basis.
Under short general anesthesia.
The area is also anesthetized locally to reduce postoperative pain.
In gynecological position, the excess of the small lips is resected after tensioning, by clamps.
A rigorous haemostasis is performed.
The suites are not painful, even if walking is troublesome the first days.
It is best to wear light clothing and cotton underwear.
The skirt is preferable to the pants the first days.
The sutures are resorbed, there is no thread to remove.
The pains diminish from the 10th day.
Sexual intercourse is possible after reduction of pain after a month and a half.
It is necessary to dry well (disinfection then dry hair) after the daily shower to avoid a maceration and after each passage to the toilet.
You should contact your surgeon if a pain appears or an unpleasant smell, to rule out a complication of the intimate surgery.
Complications
Hematoma and bleeding: rare, usually avoided by good haemostasis (cauterization) of the small artery at the top of the lip.
Disunity, that is to say reopening of the scar. This is a possible complication considering the possibility of maceration. This complication is prevented by a suture in several planes.
If it occurs healing takes several weeks and must be re-intervened to make a new suture. Rare but not exceptional complication (about 7% in the largest published study).
Infection of the scar, usually well prevented by correct body hygiene and daily local care (twice a day).
Failure to heal or unsightly scar is rare.
Residual pain, fades over time, failing which a prescription of analgesic cream decreases the symptoms.
There is a theoretical risk of decreasing the erogenous sensitivity of this zone, but this sensation is rare and transient.
Similarly, pain during the reports are generally described transiently. They are present in 2/3 of the cases, the first month. (source pdf information sheet of the French Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery)
